Hi, meet my ‘Muddy Puppy’, aka MacTire at just over 8 weeks of age.  Frankly his brother looked much more like their sire, my Olcan but it was this boy that drew my eye when he moved!  Even at his young age there was grace and power evident and his deep dark eyes just drew you in.  So Mud puppy became my stud fee puppy pick from the one and only litter I agreed to sire by my Olcan, who was 6 years old at the time.  (sigh)  His nickname of  “Mud Puppy’ was to stay with him for quite some time as he really was muddy coloured poor fellow (lol).

clip2_129

Well the ‘Mud’ puppy is still muddy coloured (lol), but he is beginning to mature and stand out a bit more.  Here is a good picture of the ‘airplane’ ears wolfhound puppies quite often display and in the picture below he is running and play with Aunt Olivia and her daughter Arwen.  Smart boy he is staying a little way back from the two older girls (lol).

and so time has passed and the ‘Mud Puppy’ is .....well not turning into a swan but beginning to show some real promise (lol).  He is physically a combination of his mother and father, with the personality much like his father.  This is exactly what I was looking for!

So here Mac is running with his father, my Olcan who is over 7 years old in this photo and the one below.  In the middle is my Arwen.  These guys love to run and Olcan kept right up with these two youngsters!

Alright, poor Glenn McLaughlin, a good friend of mine who has kindly helped me show a few of my wolfhounds.  The slight frown you see is because Mac is trying to run away a bit towards myself.  I am ahead of them and not in this photo with Mac’s litter brother Merlin.  Merlin’s owner was looking very anxious and nervous and this was both the dogs’ first show at the 2016 IWCC Quebec Regional Show.  I was not suppose to be handling in this class at all since Glenn had kindly agreed to do so for me.  With Merlin’s owner so nervous I offered to take him into the ring for her.  Frankly I made showing Mac so much harder for Glenn as he kept trying to catch up to momma.  Unsurprisingly, Merlin ended up with me taking first in the Group of 12 to 18 month old males and Mac with Glenn took second.  Considering the problem I caused for Glenn and Mac I am proud of this placement and it will not happen again!!! Sorry Glenn (lol).

Here is a good picture of Merlin with Julianna one of his owners and his brother Mac bringing up the rear.  They are actually following myself and their father Olcan.  We were competing for Best Stud Dog and we WON!

So, MacTire and Glenn took second place in the 12 to 18 month old class under Judge Mrs. Csilla Juhash of Glor Na Gael Kennel in Hungary.  My poor fella, seems the  hard work has worn him out, lol.  Second place in a Specialty and being beat by his litter mate is still a good win!

Still in June but after the Quebec Specialty Mac and my friend Kim McLaughlin are getting to know each other better (lol) while I was occupied in the ring with my Arwen.

Here we were in July at the Kingston and District All Breed Show.  Glenn is yes once again handling and I am taking a break.  Mac is a lot like his father and showing the tendency of being a momma’s boy like his father, Olcan who no one can really handle except myself.  Hence why I’ve handed him off to Glenn.  This way I will hopefully avoid that problem.  On this day MacTire took Best of Breed beating the No. 2 wolfhound in Canada!  Way to go you guys!!!

Even if not a breeder you will notice the progression in this young male’s conformation (build) as he matures from those earlier pictures.  He was just 19 months when he won this day!

In August 2016 MacTire took Best of Winners!  He moved well in spite of the heat and I was so proud of him.  With limited showing my MacTire has become a new Canadian Champion!  Thank you Glenn McLaughlin for your help with this young male.

Here is his official winning show photo of his New Canadian Championship status at less than 2 yeas of age!

We missed his last show in October 2016 due to car troubles but the best is yet to come in 2017.  As I breed and show more I tend to favour my wolfhounds being photographed in more natural settings and hope to have more candids soon, so stay tuned for further updates.

Well here we are at the 2017 Irish Wolfhound Club of Canada, Quebec Regional Specialty.  Assisting me today was one of my puppy owners, Jurgen Mack (he and his wife Susanne are owned by an Olivia daughter ‘Luna’).  Jurgen is the competitive sort and wanted to learn how to show and I figured, lets give him a tough one to start with, lol.  As you can see from this photo MacTire is looking pretty good.....right.  Sigh, but it is when he begins to move that he shows the Irish Wolfhound stubborn side, lol.  It is something that if Jurgen is going to show wolfhounds needs to learn how to deal with.  Mac’s trick is that he will run with his head down.  It shortens his stride and give him a roached back appearance.  Currently he does this more with others (not mum, lol), but my friend Glenn has shown him and knows how to remind him who is boss (lol).  Poor Jurgen, he is learning but it will take awhile before he and Mac listen  to each other!  Meanwhile with having my hands full it helps to have someone like Jurgen willing to lend a hand!  Thank you so much Jurgen, I truly appreciated it and he will do better with you with practice!

10062017-_DSC4498 (1)

Now some might ask me why I should show such a, ‘not so great a photo of my dog on the move’.  Well as you may have read from the previous photo this shows what a pouting wolfhound looks like who is NOT cooperating with his handler.  See how his head is below midline causing that roached back appearance.  Thankfully MacTire has excellent shoulders so his forward reach is excellent. If you remember from earlier photos of Mac with Glenn you can see the difference it makes in the dogs movement and appearance.  I like to encourage people who want to learn and I have worked with Mac, and he does not do this when shown by myself.  It is why I let Jurgen show MacTire.  He is turning into a momma’s boy just like his father Olcan who cannot be shown really by anyone but myself.  Unfortunately there is only so many dogs I can show at once and this was MacTire being shown for the Best of Breed against other champions, one of the few I personally had in the ring.  I was busy handling Arwen, and I even had Arwen’s mum Olivia being shown by Konstanze.  My friend Glenn was showing a dog of my breeding Kaldaun’s Aengus for my friend and fellow breeder and his owner, Cathy Charles.  It was all hands on deck and an opportunity for Jurgen to show and learn with MacTire.  Lol, It appears it will take a few more lessons I’m a thinkin!

Well here we are in late August 2017 at the SD & G dog show in Long Sault.  As you can see not only is Jurgen beginning to form a bond with MacTire but Mac is feeling better about someone besides Glenn or I handling him, lol, head back up!

Handler is obviously concentrating, but oops, Mac found, mum, had to hide again, lol.

Just a casual winning photo of MacTire with my friend Jurgen Mack with a Select Winner’s ribbon.  It is Mac’s first points towards his Grand Championship!  Way to go guys, especially for finally working together, lol!

I would also like to thank Tatiana Adams a fellow friend and dog lover, who owns, breeds and shows her beautiful Black Russian Terriers.  It was she  who was kind enough to get those ‘on the move’ photos of Jurgen and MacTire.

Just a couple of candids from our romp in the woods during what turned out to be almost blizzard conditions at times.  This was an almost clear moment and I had really wanted some decent photos, but oh well I’ve titled these the soggy dog and owner photos.  Taken here on February 2, 2018.  As you can see when it is I taking the photos they do this (nope not looking at ya) or run towards me, lol.  Thanks be for good friends who can get me some awesome photos is all I’m saying......

Only able to get this one because he was distracted for a second or two by a squirrel.  Ultimately spending some quality time with just one dog is rare for me and I think he enjoyed our time together as much as I did.

Working late in April 2018 getting my MacTire groomed for showing.  Jurgen and Susanne had brought the beautiful Luna around for a quick play date with Neila and a chance for me to see her myself.  Winter seems to go on forever and I will no longer travel far at that time of year.  I am spoiled by such generous owners who take time to bring my ‘four footed grandkids’ around for me to see. (lol)

Mac and Jurge still have that bond as one can see.  It gave me a chance to stand back and see what still need to be done.  MacTire is maturing into a truly handsome example of our breed!

I cannot thank you both enough, Susanne and Jurgen for all you have done, you two are awesome!

We have started the show season a bit late because frankly all my dogs are Champions, and currently I am just showing to throw on the title of Grand Champion in order to keep my and my dogs’ paws in (lol).  Keeps one being known in the dog world plus it is fun showing!  MacTire is just 3 years of age now.

So this day in May of 2018 we have come to the Queon Lure Coursing Association Specialty (for sighthounds) and  the Hochelaga Kennel Clubs All Breed show in Saint-Lazare, Quebec.

Today MacTire did extremely well taking the Select dog under Judge Pamela Bruce in the Specialty and Judge Francois Bernier in the Hochelaga All Breed Show.  He was up against some really quality Irish Wolfhound males, including Cathy Charles’, Kaldaun’s Aengus Na Tirnanog (Aengus), who took breed in each show.  Thank you judges for recognizing the quality of both of these males!

Here we have Jurgen kindly agreeing to show his buddy again a year later at the 2018 Quebec Regional Irish Wolfhound Specialty, while I showed my Arwen.  Thanks again Jurgen, I was proud of you both this day.  You will not see any hanging heads in any of the following photos, lol.  Though MacTire did not take breed this day he was definitely in the running.  Out of the males that were being considered the Judge only pulled two out for a second look.  One being MacTire and the other Aengus!  It makes me very proud to know when my breeding program is going in the right direction.
